Scholarships

Young people of Emmanuel are gifts to us from God. We take our responsibility seriously to nurture them, encourage them and support their understanding of how much God loves them. In addition to our Sunday School offerings, Emmanuel supports the children through young adults by providing scholarships to attend Camp Capers for a week of fun, fellowship with children from all over the diocese and spiritual formation. Scholarships are also available for our young adults to help with college education.

For information on available scholarships, call or email the church office.

Homeless Ministry: From the Heart

Here at Emmanuel, we are blessed to know Susan Long and to support her work of ministering to the unhoused in Austin, Texas. It’s something she’s been doing for a number of years.

We got to know Susan through some of our parishioners—one of whom is her son—who, independent of Emmanuel, were regularly helping her to collect items of clothing and food to distribute among the 60+ unhoused adults that she ministers to each Sunday from in front of Angel House in Austin. She also shares copies of bible stories with “her people” which she says they look forward to as much as the commodities.

Eventually, Emmanuel’s Vestry and congregation decided to embrace Susan and her ministry, and help her to provide clothing, personal care items and food for these women and men. It’s been a wonderful relationship—one that has not only provided unhoused adults living in unthinkable circumstances some nourishment and comfort, but also an opportunity for Emmanuel’s members and others to help Susan do God’s work.

The needs of these people are many. And they change seasonally. Susan Long was good enough to provide us with a list of items that her people need and appreciate, and that—if you are so moved—you can donate to help them throughout the year.

If you wish to donate items to Susan’s From the Heart, Ministry for the Homeless, you can do so by contacting Emmanuel’s office at 512.398.3342. We’d be happy to be the collection drop off for any food, clothing or personal care items you wish to donate to this worthy ministry. If you wish to write a check, make it out to Emmanuel Episcopal Church, and we will ensure the funds get to Susan.
